A sprinkling of tumbledown cottages whose whitewashed walls huddle beneath a cluster of thatched rooftops Crouch low on the crest of rolling hills of emerald green That overlook patchwork fields in russet red the colour of ploughed soil And old gold ready for harvest as far as the eye can see Beneath vast skiesawash in a pale blueDaubed with a whisper of gauzein pure whiteFrom […]“A sprinkling of tumbledown cottages” #poem #poetry #writing
By Eilene Lyon As we motored home after test-driving potential candidates for our new vehicle, we passed a political sign next to the highway. It is located on private property in a very red corner of New Mexico. It read: God, Family, Second Amendment, Constitution, Trump. I pondered those in this country who believe the […]Absurdities #11
Many birds leave the northeastern part of the United States and Canada this time of year and head to warmer locals where finding food is easier. Loons migrate to the Long Island Sound and points south. Most Great Blue Herons and Ospreys have headed south. Can you name a bird that treats New York and […]Snowy Owl Return
I have a babysitting gig tonight. I was doing a quick scroll on Facebook (that’s about all I can handle on FB) and noticed my neighbor two doors up looking for a last-minute sitter since the scheduled sitter has come down sick. It’s my neighbors anniversary and apparently the reservations have been made for months. […]We’re Not Bleeding

I had a look at Fay Collins’ portfolio, and there are such lovely paintings among them, I couldn’t resist writing to another, one of my favourites, Galloway Cattle Grazing at Ennerdale Water. Nothing else Nothing so high as a mountain, nothing greener, bluer, mistier autumn mornings. Nowhere the trees cling harder, the sun falls steeper, slantingand slipping to […]Nothing else
What is your favorite holiday? In our family we have two: Día de los Muertos and Thanksgiving. For our annual fourth-Thursday-in-November celebration, we invite friends to share a meal. I cook the turkey, gravy, and quinoa stuffing (see recipe below). Our friends make creative, traditional and non-traditional sides; cranberry relish, sweet potatoes, humintas(corn dish), pumpkin pie, apple cobbler, […]7 Foods For Which I’m Grateful

Before you know what kindness really isyou must lose things, feel the future dissolve in a momentlike salt in a weakened broth. Thought I haven’t found Rami Malek’s recent performances compelling, he is absolutely brilliant in Mr. Robot! It’s as if he’s lived his entire life with the goal to play the role of Elliot Alderson—a cybersecurity engineer who has crippling social anxiety, is addicted to morphine, and grapples with an imaginary friend. The opening scene is […]Mr. Robot (2015-2019)

It’s known that hurting people hurt other people. Intentionally and unintentionally. Your traumas will always be a part of you but you get to decide how you carry them. Do you learn from them? Do you let them change you into a better more loving, compassionate, and giving person? Or do you carry them in a way that will keep wounding you?
In my pocket
I pull them out
And look at them
They will be gems
Because of me
And I’ll wear them
For all to see
